Vipers are please to announce our VT League coaches for the 2011/12 season.

Mick “MC”Carter will take charge of the Women’s team and Stephen “Youngy” Young will head the Men’s team.

MC and Youngy both bring a wealth of touch knowledge to their respective teams having both played the game since Jesus played left link and Moses in the middle for the Northern Eagles. Lately the two have played in the ACT Men’s 30′s team at the 2011 NTL’sand will join forces to also guide the Victorian Men’s team at the upcoming NSW State Cup in December. As foundation members of Vipers Sports Club, both hold many roles within the club so whats another one to the list, they will bring passion and their experiences to a young list of players looking to make their mark on the VTL in 2011/12.

The club would also like to announce that Chris “Blue Eyes” Casey will take on the role of Football Operations Manager working with all Vipers VT league teams to ensure that all things run smoothly on game night and that the coaching staff and players just need to focus on winning matches and nothing else, Chris has been a member of the Men’s team and inaugural Men’s captain in past seasons, however due to a recent knee injury will be sidelined for this season.

We would like to wish the guys all the best in their new roles and best of luck for the upcoming VTL season.

Vipers have been there from the very start of VT and were one of four foundation clubs of the newly established competition four years ago. The competition has grown from strength to strength as have Vipers, with no less the five Grand Final appearances from a possible six finals. This desire to succeed has been one of the main reason many players choose to play with Vipers in the VT League. The club supplies the best coaches in the State for both their Men’s and Women’s teams not to mention all the added extras the VT players enjoy when travelling to various rounds with food and massages.

This Saturday at Elwood the club will once again be vying for the envious title of Men’s and Women’s VT Champions for 2010/11.

The Vipers Women’s team have been relatively unchanged from last year although have recruited some quality players in the off season with first tie VT players Amy Lewicki and Gemma Hocart teaming up with Amanda Bourne a current Australian Women’s 30′s player and fellow Aussie player Brooke James. The team have once again been rock solid throughout the season and have finished just behind old foes the City Lions. However a new challenger has landed on the scene in 2010/11 and could very well see the tightest finals day in history with the Falcons having already recorded a shock win over the ladies this season. Mel Ashmore, Nicole Doig and Sharyn Cassell will need to bring their A games to the finals on Saturday as Suzy Barrett, Tamara Lowen, Andrea Frankpitt, Lani Harris and Hellie Dracup all foundation players with Vipers look to make four straight Grand Finals and win back the VT Women’s title.

The Men’s team the current VT Men’s Champions will have to do things alittle harder then last years run at the title and will be required to play and win three games to capture the title. The squad is full of confidence and completed their final training session on Wednesday with out concern or injury. Key player’s will help the team attempt to become back to back champions with Jason “JK” Kaiwai, Clinton Burke, Vincent Demaria, Stephen Young and Mick Carter sure to inspire their team in attack and defence. While the go forward of the team will be firmly placed on Steele Tallon, Thomas Naughtin and Simon Sharland to lay the platform for the light footwork of Callan Donner and the fast finishing of the teams wingers in Tim Watkins, Michael Shadbolt, Josh Chan and the ever youthful Russ Bari to score plenty on game day. The team have played each week with passion and at time’s pure determination due to short numbers on certain weeks but have managed to have a quality month of touch to ensure that come Saturday they are every bit the chance to claim back to back titles.

GO VIPERS!!!!!

Training sessions are not uncommon for Vipers players in the VT League but recently the club has conducted some sessions for our park players and teams to help them also develop and improve their knowledge and skill levels as they each look to capture a Touch title in 2010/11.

The sessions are a great way for new players to receive coaching from some of the State’s most experienced coaches and none more experienced then honorary Viper Tony El Takchi. Tash has been a regular visitor to Victoria at the request of Vipers as well as the State Coaches over the years and is always willing to lend his experiences and knowledge to those willing to listen.

Tony recently made the local Melbourne Weekly magazine when visiting for the Vipers training sessions.
