Vipers returned to Elwood over the winter on Wednesday nights with the promise of a competitive competition and hard games.

So with this in mind Vipers set about assembling a core group of old heads and new players to fill their Men’s team and a team of what would be the envy of any Senior Mixed team at NTL’s.

The Men’s team performed well throughout the season with only one loss recorded and a host of new and inexperienced players scattered through a team of regulars. The old heads included Horse, Burky, Dessie, Russ, Simon, Youngy and Bretho all players with years of experience and the new players in Andy, Grant, Jase, Woody and Jordie. The team at times struggled for more the seven players which continued into the finals with only seven players available for the grand final. The GF against Monash always going to be tough with the light feet of Ritchie and Vinnie plus there team of workhorses. The teams headed to the break locked at 2 -2 and with the coaching genius of Bretho to turn up at half time to invigorate a team with fresh legs the team ran away with a comfortable 6 -2 victory and be crowded EPTA WORLD CHAMPS!

The Mixed team which would be a very competitive Senior Mixed team at the NTL’s tournament was choc full of Australian and NTL Reps with Jordie the onl;y player not to have played in a NTL but also helping lower the average age of the team by 5 years. Thanks Jordie.

Well this game was always going to be a test of how the team would gel together as similar to the Men’s team regular numbers as well as regular games throughout the season was a struggle, but as they say”It is like ridding a bike you never forget”. The game was a fast end to end game with the Melb Uni crew lead by new Vipers VT recruit Ben Moceiwai leading the young touchies around the park but the experience and at times methodical game plan of Vipers to strong. The Vipers team lead by recent Aussie reps Brookie, Bretho along with past Aussie reps Suzy and MC helped lay the ground work for the teams NTL’s reps Dessie, Smash, Doigy, Jen and the impact player for the Mixed team Youngy to execute the plan of hard drives and hole hitting, however Jordie was not to be left out and decided he too would get in on the action and do it all himself while the rest of the team was not looking pure genius. The match was all but over at half time with Vipers leading 4- 0 and then straight after half time another 3 added before the TouchUm team got their first TD. The match ended at 8 -1 Vipers.

Congratulations to both Vipers teams and the unaffiliated Women’s team UFO”s which also won on the night and is littered with Vipers players.

Vipers are please to announce our VT League coaches for the 2011/12 season.

Mick “MC”Carter will take charge of the Women’s team and Stephen “Youngy” Young will head the Men’s team.

MC and Youngy both bring a wealth of touch knowledge to their respective teams having both played the game since Jesus played left link and Moses in the middle for the Northern Eagles. Lately the two have played in the ACT Men’s 30′s team at the 2011 NTL’sand will join forces to also guide the Victorian Men’s team at the upcoming NSW State Cup in December. As foundation members of Vipers Sports Club, both hold many roles within the club so whats another one to the list, they will bring passion and their experiences to a young list of players looking to make their mark on the VTL in 2011/12.

The club would also like to announce that Chris “Blue Eyes” Casey will take on the role of Football Operations Manager working with all Vipers VT league teams to ensure that all things run smoothly on game night and that the coaching staff and players just need to focus on winning matches and nothing else, Chris has been a member of the Men’s team and inaugural Men’s captain in past seasons, however due to a recent knee injury will be sidelined for this season.

We would like to wish the guys all the best in their new roles and best of luck for the upcoming VTL season.
