What a start for the new Vipers M League netball teams, who are undefeated in their debut season at the State Netball and Hockey Centre. 7 rounds have eclipsed and the Vipers have been unstoppable in both the men’s and mixed divisions.
The Vipers Mixed team had a comfortable 24 goal win again last night against the South Australia Concepts. With a tight first quarter being played out, it looked like the Vipers would be in for a tough night. The height of Sophie O’Shae at GS saw her shooting stats continue to rise, and Heath Brown was dominating in defence despite the fact his opponent was 6″6″. It was the super quick skills of the mid court that made the difference in the end, and the Vipers cruised to a 34 – 60 victory.
The Vipers men’s team have faced some interesting battles in previous weeks, however none tougher than trying to beat the undefeated Hoppers Crossing. A tight battle saw both teams going goal for goal in the first quarter. Great defence from James Matthews and Gerard Murphy saw the Vipers break centre and lead 8 – 10. With a hamstring injury to the oppositions centre player leaving Hoppers with 6 players for the remainder of the game. Vipers stormed ahead and with the sting out of the game by the last quarter and won 30 – 52. Dan Ryan ran hard all game and shot excellently with Bala Lange in support.
With some players heading to Cook Islands in October for the mens and mixed netball World Championships, Vipers will rely on fill ins to continue the unbeaten run. We look forward to finals in November!
