The new seasons of Netball are almost here and Vipers will be fielding four teams come August
Vipers has had a great response to the call for netball players over the last few weeks with no less then four teams set to compete in competitions at Albert Park and the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Royal Park.
The semi social sides will see the return of recent netball retiree Stephen Young return to the court after a 4 week retirement where he will team up with many of his old Oakleigh teammates in Mick and Tanya Lovett as well as the Burke duo of Mon and Clinton, the team will also welcome some newcomers as regular touchies Danni and Emcoming on board as well as Jarran Raspdey to bolster the male stocks. The team will compete in the Tuesday Mixed comp at the Albert Park centre alongside the very first Vipers Women’s netball team.
The ladies have ditched the blokes from last season’s mixed team and will be a formidable force with some key recruiting taking place during the off season with the inclusion of Julia ” no nonsense” Barry to join Jen, Smash, Suzy and Brooke with a couple to be added the team is well placed for good season.
Vipers will also field for the first time a all Male team in the State League which is played at the National Netball centre in Royal Park on Wednesday nights. This team will be lead by National player and Vipers very own Tim Blackwood, who has also managed to recruit some key female players for the Vipers second State League team in the Mixed division with Renne Hallinan from the Melbourne Vixens fresh from her premiership in the ANZ championship to take up the challenge with Vipers. Many await the announcement of the Australian Diamonds team before the final line up is finalised for the Mixed, so stay tuned.
All in all the new season set to commence in August will be one of anticipation for all involved in the Vipers Netball teams at both venues.
Best of Luck Guys and Gals
